The Newtown General Store has provided goods to the people of Newtown for over 160 years. Operating under different names from various owners, the “General Store” first opened its doors in 1847 located in the heart of Newtown, Connecticut’s historic Main Street.
Today we are a full service delicatessen with a range of food choices to satisfy a variety of appetites. We only use the freshest premium ingredients, brand names like Boar’s Head cold cuts, Hellman’s mayonnaise, and Land o’ Lakes cheese. Our roast beef is grass fed top round, cooked in our own ovens. Our chicken salad is made fresh daily on site with only 100% white meat chicken breast. Our tuna is 100% solid white albacore.
Stop by and check out our daily breakfast special: bacon, sausage, or ham, egg and cheese for only $1.49 before 11am. Add on a fresh brewed cup of Lavazza coffee to make the perfect breakfast.
So whether you want a delicious breakfast, hearty lunch or a quick snack, stop in to the Newtown General Store and become part of history.
TESTIMONIALS FROM CUSTOMERS
Amazing deli in the heart of Newtown. Best bacon egg and cheese I have ever had-you need to order a hash brown with it! Flagpole is one of her best inventions if you’re looking to be satisfied all day long.
Do yourself a favor – go straight to the deli in the back, order a Flagpole, and eat it outside so you can enjoy the view of Newtown’s beautiful main street. Although some days I’ll forgo the Flagpole in favor of hot roast beef, bacon, melted cheddar and barbecue sauce on a roll…it does not get better than that!
You can’t do better than this if you want a hot sandwich . While the flagpole is famous, I love hot roast beef and will usually go for “the Borough” or “the Sandy Hook” (I think that’s what it’s called). I usually get a cold mocha Frappuccino with it since they don’t have milkshakes. The place has lots of options in terms of drinks, chips and candy.
